Hatters Tea Party

Have you recovered from your celebrations??? I even managed to stay awake until midnight, but not long after…lol

These are the bits and pieces of a project that should have been done when I belonged to Cloth Doll Artistry. I was really looking forward to doing their Alice challenge. Never got there, but I never forgot that I wanted to do it. These pictures don’t really show the direction I want to go with this, but I’ll try and explain it and hope it makes sense.

The first picture shows the wood piece that will become the base of this. I originally painted it with a watercolour garden theme and had it hanging in the garden for a few years. Eventually it just had to come down. I brought it in, but couldn’t put it in the wood stove. I just thought it deserved a second chance after it stood up so well for so long in the elements.

The angle I took these pictures at are not great but when I start working on this, I will for sure take pictures that make sense. Side views and close ups.

So in this one, you can see that the board is an arch shape. It’s dimensions are 23W x 12H x 1 1/2”D. My plan is to sand the wood clean, seal it and then give the base a very cool surface treatment. Not going to say what that is just now. I bet my friend Chrissie will know, let’s see if she comments.

The frame itself will get a fresh coat of paint and varnish.  The small light coloured pieces of wood and spindles will be a table. The rest are bits and pieces for the tea party.

The metal fence might be part of the display, but I’ll have to see how that works. It’s a great match for a Hatter Tea Party, but I’m not sure about perspective, so may or may not happen. I found some pieces of perfect doll size furniture at our local general store and I saw them at a garden center as well. The chairs rock, so cute. The beaded boxes have to be included somehow as do the bottle brush trees. I love collecting all the bits to experiment with. If they don’t got to one project, they will for another.

And finally, this is a collection of fabrics and ribbon for the costuming. The roll of black is leather pieces. I love the checkered ribbon in two colours, so they will for sure have to be used somehow. There will be more trims as i go along, but this is my starting point to get me thinking about the way the final piece will look. It isn’t going to be a quick thing, I will just be taking my time and enjoying bringing this party to life. ;o)

So stay tuned to see what happens next… Until next time…
