Sidney Museum - My Display 2015

It’s time to start posting pictures of the displays. I’ll start with mine and move on to others in a day or two. In my case I was able to take these pictures before we put the plexi glass back in place, so there isn’t the bit of glare that there will be in the other pictures I post.  I’ll do my best not to get glare but even without the flash, it still happens. I made a few minor changes to the display after the pictures were taken, but essentially this how it looks.

The books are “The Queens Dollmaker” by Christine Trent, a story based in the late 1700’s about a woman who is in the worst of the worst of situations but manages to survive and thrive and eventually has Marie Antoinette as a customer for her dolls. Christine’s books are a wonderful read, she transports you back to that time and you can feel like you are standing in the shadows watching these characters lives play out right in front of you.

The second book is “Fools Are Everywhere” by Beatrice K. Otto. A historical book about Jesters from around the world. One of passages of the book resonated with me and I used it as a description of my display, I quote.

“Jesters are a contradiction of joyful and dramatic. They have been depicted in writings and carvings, and in our day and time, have become the comedic relief in our troubled world.

Jesters are nothing if not creative, innovative, flexible and challenging – these qualities are at the core of their being, and humour is often simply the wrapping they use to dress it up and make it acceptable.”

Beatrice K. Otto.

And here are my display pictures. I love my display case, it has a faux tree on either side and if the cloth wasn’t there you could see the cedar panels behind. You can see some of that where the sign is hanging.  Back soon with more pictures from the other presenters. Some amazing work. Some are dolls from those who have made them, other displays are by those who collect certain styles of dolls.
