Jessee Jingles

Jessee is another of those classes from way back when (2006). I was like a sponge back when I started making dolls, starting in 2003 and signed up for so many classes. I wanted to take them all and thank goodness I did that. I was able to afford them and now that I’m not working, the pocket book has to be assigned a lot more carefully.

This is a class with Patti LaValley. She was so cute in the picture I knew one day I would make her. For this doll, I didn’t (if you can believe it) make any changes to her. Patti made her with all the details I like and I’m so happy with the results.

Some details about her costume. The collection of things I used to dress her came from a few sources. A nearby home based business had a craft supplies sale recently, and I managed to scoop a small piece of fabric that caught my eye. In this picture it’s hard to see but there are a multiple of colours that swirl around and are broken up with gold geometric lines.

The wool pieces appeared at a friends front door. She is a rug hooker and often finds donations left from estates or someone just not rug hooking any longer. Dianne let us go through the bag and I took away those two small bundles of wool samples.

The batik along with a couple more green batiks from my stash came from another friend who had travelled overseas. The purple silk is a scarf from Janet, the green is from a shopping excursion to Salt Spring Is. a couple of years ago. The beaded trim came from a store I love to visit. It’s small shop, but full of beautiful silks from India. She also has a wonderful selection of trims, many like this beaded one, are hand made by  people in India. The jingle bells are all from my stash.

A little side view of Jessee and the big jingle bell she holds.

The check fabric was in my black and white stash and had just enough to make her shorts and trim her vest.

The stool I made for her. Unfortunately, the colour of the legs doesn’t reflect the actual colour, they are in fact a mid value between her hair and the top of the stool. The top and underside are covered with felt, soft grey on the bottom, as it seems to have become a signature for me. The shaker pegs were left over from another project. A bit a trim and voila, Jessee has a cute little stool to sit on. It stands about 4” high.

I decided I liked the idea of giving her two different colours of shoes and of course trimmed with colours of beads and ribbon pulled from the colours of the fabrics in her costume.

I was very happy to finally have this little lady made.  She is the 8th Jester I will have at the museum exhibit. Only 2 are from a while ago and if I meet my list, I will have 10 new ones made.

Closing in on the last of the ones I wanted to make, so send me some helpful energy vibes as I push on through June to get to the last of my list.. ;o) Jessee says, thanks for stopping by.
