Garden Goodies

Every gardener plants things in the garden to try them out, see how they work out and if it's successful...great. Well a couple of years ago I got two black currant bushes at a good price and thought I would give them a try. We did get some berries last year, but just a sampling. This year however was another story. Must be all that good compost they get treated to a regular basis. It took us a while, but we managed to pick a good serving of those nice big berries.
I am admittedly not a good jam or jelly maker, but my neighbour is. I spotted her daughter and asked if she thought her mum would like to make some jelly and she said most definately. So, off I went and presented her with her bounty. I couldn't resist giving her some of our big bushy and fragrant parsley and some of the last of our raspberries. I did not ask for any jelly I just wanted someone to use them who would really enjoy them.

A week later, what comes to the door. The daughter with jars of black currant jelly. We put them in the fridge as they were concerned that they weren't set up well...but oh my... it is so good. It's a perfect consistency and on toast it's to die for. A nice rich tasting jelly with a cup of tea or coffee, on a beautiful sunny morning, sitting outside for breakfast. What's better !! It was a happy surprize and much appreciated...Thanks Shirley...
