Beacon Hill Park

A few weeks ago we went into Victoria to take a walk around Beacon Hill Park and just spend some time relaxing and enjoying a nice day. There is a petting farm at the park and who could resist going and seeing the new babies of the year. These little guys are Alpaca's, and after their hot weather hair cut. Poor things, don't they look silly. They were fun to watch as they chased each other around.

For any of you who haven't seen them with their full complement of hair, I found this picture on the net. Pretty amazing aren't they. They are such beautiful creatures. I have some alpaca wool for knitting some sweaters. It's so soft and warm, I can only imagine how hot they would get if they didn't get their summer shearing..

Every spring hearalds in new baby goats, or kids if you prefer. I watched these little guys for so long. Boy, when they get going, they start running and hopping all over the place. The funniest thing is when they decide to find out whose in charge. They chase each other around, climb all over the stumps and the humans that came to see them. The children get so excited. The two little goats on the top of the stumps were hilarious to watch. Trying to butt heads, sneaking up on each other...I could have watched them for hours...

Every park needs peacocks, and there were a good number of them. Would I ever want to be in an enclosed area when they start calling to each other, not a chance. They are really loud, and I thought crows were bad.. ;o) This is an albino peacock. He's been there a long time and still is just as brilliant as the first time I saw him. I did notice he was hobbling around with a bum leg, so hopefully that is just a temporary thing. Isn't he gorgeous.

Of course not be outdone. There is always the more familiar peacock in it's luminescent blues and greens. This is before he went back to the enclosure. (Yes they can fly). He was taking a stroll showing off his ever so beautiful self.

And naturally after his performance outside the gates, you just had to know he wasn't finished. No sir. He wanted to make sure that every person there was going to be hypnotised by his next act. And here he is........ He simply stood there, with me not 5 feet away and let me take whatever pictures I wanted and yes I thanked him for that...This is a kodak moment if ever there was one.
